Lush with Harmonium chords, this Ghazal by Mehdi Hassan is reminiscent of classic Ghazal composing of olden days. The singers of that time required nothing more than a Harmonium and Tabla for rendering Ghazals and those Ghazals are popular till today though I must admit not a lot of young folk listen to them or like them. We are in an era where Rap and Rock are more popular. However, there is a considerable number of youngsters who like these Ghazals but they do not know where to find them.

Itana Toota Huun Ke Chhoone Se Bikhar Jaauungaa.. Yet another beautiful Ghazal by Ghalam Ali. Being a studio recording, this one is rich in audio quality compared to those Ghulam Ali has sung in public concerts. But then, there are many including me, who love his public performances. This musical treat comes from the movie Jodha Akbar. So you now know that it’s an AR Rahman composition. Yes, and it’s a truly beautiful song rendered by Bela Shende.
You might want to observe two things here: One, AR Rahman has a sound knowledge of classical music which is why he is able to create many a mood with his music and which is why he is what he is. Yes, this track is based on classical music and please avoid it if you are alergic to classical music. Two, Bela Shende is not as popular as Shreya Ghoshal but isn’t Bela’s voice incredibly sweet and melodious? Afterall, Bela emerged from the same TV reality show which made Shreya a star – the classic called Sa Re Ga Ma.
