Talat Aziz & Peenaz Masani – Rut Aaj Suhaani Hai

Another melody by Talat Aziz and Peenaz Masani. I felt that you might probably want to listen to another song by the duo after their ‘Ye Bahaar Keh Rahi Hai’. But don’t foget to tell me how much you liked or not liked what you got to listen to. I spend enough time bringing you music that I feel is worth sharing. So, I think I can ask a few comments from you at least.

Talat Aziz & Peenaz Masani – Ye Bahaar Keh Rahi Hai

Talat Aziz is not only a Ghazal singer but a music composer, too. He has composed music to quite a few television serials; wellknown among them are Deewar, Baaz, Adhikaar, Ghutan, Sailaab, Aashirwaad and the magnum opus, Noorjehan. I heard that he has also acted in a few films. In 1979, Talat Aziz released his first album with Jagjit Singh’s help titled ‘Jagjit Presents Talat Aziz’.

Peenaz Masani, with whom Talat Aziz has sung this Nazm, has been a pop-singer of a time when pop music in India was limited to films. Peenaz Masani, Usha Uthup and Sharan Prabhakar were the only singers who were popular as pop singers even outside films in those days. Today, we have many of them.

You might say that Peenaz Masani does not score as a Ghazal singer thanks to her voice which sounds a bit offkey. Nevertheless, you will enjoy a few Nazms and Ghazals she has sung along with Talat Aziz. There is a certain aura about her voice which hides everything else that she lacks as a classical singer.

When I heard this Nazm for the first time, it reminded me of the music of Hindi parallel cinema which brought out compositions like Tum Itana Jo Mukura Rahe Ho, Jhuki Jhuki Si Nazar, Ye Tera Ghar Ye Mera Ghar, etc. It’s unfortunate that today we hardly find such music in films.
